The Redeemed Christian Church of God was established by the Lord in 1952 in Nigeria through Rev Josiah Akindayomi. The Lord himself revealed the name of the church to Rev Akindayomi through vision of words written on a blackboard. The words were "The Redeemed Christian Church of God” and, Rev Akindayomi who could not read or write miraculously wrote these words down. Papa has since gone to be with the Lord.

Pastor E. A. Adeboye (affectionately called Daddy G.O) is the current General Overseer of the church. Under his leadership, the church has grown tremendously with parishes spread all over the world. The church is organized in North America as The Redeemed Christian Church of God, North America, (RCCGNA) under the Chairmanship of Pastor James Fadele with headquarters in Dallas, Texas.
